About the Project
"unser mütter" is a theatrical endeavor brought to life by femsemble, an interdisciplinary women's collective. "unser mütter" marked our inaugural project—a captivating exploration of the intricate, emotional, and sometimes tumultuous bonds between mothers and daughters.
The Complexity of Motherhood
The mother-daughter relationship is and will continue to be a web of complexities, riddled with emotions, quirks, and unspoken narratives. It's a journey filled with moments of humor, absence, love, and remorse—both subtle and profound. In these relationships, we find a tapestry woven with threads of vulnerability, hope, trauma, forgiveness, and anger.

"unser mütter" immersed itself headlong into the captivating and bewildering realm of 'mother' and mother-daughter relationships. It was a journey that examined the uncharted territories of this intricate connection.

It was not just a play; it was a testament to the creative prowess of the femsemble collective. Comprising women in their thirties, we delved deep into the theme of 'mother,' with a special focus on the often emotionally charged, complex, and complicated mother-daughter dynamic. Four of us penned unique stories, each offering a distinct perspective on mother-daughter relationships.
Empowering Women in the Arts: Our Collective Journey
A Collective Effort
The play was not just written but also produced and directed by us. In addition, we took the stage as actors to bring these powerful narratives to life. Our performance took place at the Theater Verlängertes Wohnzimmer in Berlin. The premiere was on September 2nd 2022, with additional performances on September 3rd, October 1st, and October 2nd.
Our Story
We were an interdisciplinary women's collective challenging the status quo. In the world of arts and culture, women continued to face sexism, unequal pay, and productions that often adhered to the "male gaze." We were determined to counteract this by offering a self-driven alternative. Our goal was not to point fingers but to provide a female perspective, a female voice, and stories that resonated with women. All of this, free from external influence. Among us were trained actresses, businesswomen, and theater scholars, united by our love for art. We aimed to experiment, ask questions, understand, and, most importantly, do it ourselves.
